A few short days ago David Letterman said someone had demanded $2 million from him in return for not blowing the whistle on an alleged affair Dave was having a few years back with his former assistant Stephanie Birkitt, apparently Dave and Stephanie would frequently have sex in his office at work. It might have worked but Letterman went to Police who arranged to give a “fake check” to the would be extortionist. Unbelievably the “dumb criminal” took a check as payment!

Needless to say the cops just sat back and waited to see what fool would try to cash it…

They got their answer soon enough and it’s a shock, the evil doer is none other than highly respected producer Robert “Joe” Halderman who currently works on the true crime show “48 Hours” he reportedly sent a box to Letterman that included parts of a diary and correspondence belonging to Birkitt. Halderman allegedly to have a boatload of other incriminating documents, including letters, emails and photos.

On September 23, Halderman met with undercover cops believing they where Dave’s representatives, he gave his word that he would not make the diary public, but it was going to cost $2 million to make the whole thing disappear. Halderman who had a relationship with Stephanie Birkitt, lived with her but the two had recently broke up leaving Halderman with some of her belongings. He was arrested yesterday outside the CBS headquarters in NYC shortly after depositing the bogus check.

Letterman acknowledged on his show last night he had sexual relations with with his former assistant, Stephanie Birkitt. The network has also acknowledged that Letterman did have a relationship with Birkitt, but they believe it ended before Dave and his wife had the baby back in 2003.

At an 11:00 a.m. press conference today, Governor Sarah Palin announced that she would not seek a second term as governor. The governor continued, saying that by the end of the month she would resign from the governorship.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has announced that she is quitting as that state’s governor in a matter of weeks. Palin told a news conference “I’m not seeking re-election,” at which she said she would transfer authority to Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell.

John McCain’s vice-presidential running mate was Sarah Palin and she is seen by a large amount of Republicans as the potential Presidential candidate in 2012.

Although she is throwing in the towel this month, Palin’s first term as Alaska’s governor was not set to end for another year. Her decision came after very much “prayer and consideration.” Palin also stated she did not want to waste time on a “political blood sport” and blamed public criticism of her actions and personal attacks on her family since the 2008 campaign as her main reason for quitting her position, Saying they were creating national distractions that cost the state money.

Sarah Palins biggest battle and most recent slam came from talk  show host David Letterman a short time ago over a joke about Palin’s daughter. You all remember his public apology right? Everyone knows he took it back, but she just won’t seem to let it go…

GOP watcher Ben Smith was quoted as saying that leaving the Alaska Governor’s mansion will allow Palin to bang the drum more effectively for the Republicans, something that the floundering GOP needs from one of their remaining stars.

Question is who would even consider electing someone to the presidency that couldn’t even handle one term as Governor of Alaska? Seriously who would even consider electing a quitter as the next president of the United States…
