KISS frontman Gene Simmons claims the media is to blame for spoiling a surprise the band had in store for Oshawa, Canada. For the last several months the mega huge rock group has been running a competition to find the biggest Kiss fans on the planet. Well they got their answer, they reside in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. As the Canadian fans voted to ensure their hometown would be included in the band’s next big tour, finishing first among all eligible cities worldwide!
However the folks in the shwa were in for a rude awakening as when the upcoming tour dates were posted their city was nowhere to be found. This ignited a firestorm of media criticism almost immediately towards the group, who was then forced to reveal their “secret plan” Simmons said the band had planned all along to launch its new album, “Sonic Boom,” in the city, but he’s fuming they were forced by the media to make the announcement early stating they will indeed play the Kiss fanatic filled city of Oshawa on Oct. 7.
“I’m really pissed off at the media for creating this nonsense,” Simmons told The Canadian Press in an interview. “You know, here’s the history of the way we do things: you treat everything and everybody special, and because of who and what Oshawa is, which is near and dear to our hearts, because they won the No. 1 spot above and beyond New York, L.A., Toronto, Vancouver, we wanted to do a huge campaign for the big winners, but the media instigation of the whole thing never gave us a chance to treat Oshawa special.”
