The message local officials are giving when it comes to Canadian Superstar Shania Twain’s return home this Friday night. “Dress warmly. Bring a camera, park in the free parking lots downtown and expect to have a good time Friday night.” At about 6:57 p.m. the flame will be lit on the torch held by Shania Twain. She will carry the flame into Fred Salvador Field where Shania will light a cauldron on the stage kicking off a huge outdoor bash.

Shania is not scheduled to perform after her trek with the Olympic torch committee chair Timmins Police Constable Al Richardson is quoted as saying. “But she is being given some time to speak to her hometown crowd. We don’t anticipate that she’ll sing. We don’t have any preparation for music or anything for her to do that, but who knows,” Local Officials point out that runners alongside or behind the official torch runners will be discouraged for safety reasons as well as security reasons and absolutely no one will be allowed to share the actual Olympic flame other than an official torch runner, this Olympic torch run is not a stranger to controversy seeing protests and disruptions upon most of it’s trip across Canada.

Most recently a news photographer was sent to hospital with a concussion after security officers involved in crowd control for the Olympic torch relay knocked the man to the pavement. Paramedics attended to the journalist who was quite dazed and was having difficulty speaking. James Wallace editor-in-chief of the Toronto Sun said “To us, it looks like an unprovoked and unwarranted attack on our journalists.” Mandy Edwards a spokeswoman for the Vancouver 2010 integrated security unit responded by stating. “A member of the media tried to penetrate the security box twice around the torch bearer,” “the journalist had been warned by officials earlier”. Edwards went on to say that as the journalist moved towards the area for a second time security team members responded in an “appropriate manner” to maintain security of the torch.

Just a short time later along the route a woman carrying the Olympic torch was knocked down by a 19 year old female protester during the Olympic Run through Guelph, Ontario. The assailant was among a crowd of demonstrators who appeared to deliberately disrupt the relay at about 7:50 a.m. although the runner fell to the ground the torch remained lit, according to police. The torchbearer quickly recovered and continued with her leg of the relay.
